• 1st Net Technologies (San Diego) and MediQuik Services (Houston) said they have finalized a joint marketing and revenue-sharing agreement to build a comprehensive Internet web community for the marketing of MediQuik’s chronic disease management programs. The site will include an Internet pharmacy and storefront, with an initial focus on diabetes management services, testing supplies, pharmaceuticals and related products. Drugs will be delivered via MediQuik’s joint venture with Guardian Health Systems. The site is expected to open this month.
• Medical Technology Systems (MTS; Clearwater, FL) has signed a letter of intent to merge its subsidiary, LifeServ Technologies, with AIMCare (Manchester, NH). The merger is subject to the terms and conditions of a definitive agreement to be negotiated prior to closing, due diligence by both parties and other approvals. In the deal MTS will receive 10% of the outstanding shares of the LifeServ Technologies/AIMC merged entity. AIMCare specializes in the development of healthcare information systems for managing patient/surgical encounters. LifeServ Technologies provides software for managing medications and automating point-of-care clinical documentation. MTS is a holding company for several subsidiaries that provide solutions for nursing homes, hospitals and other providers.
• POMS Corp. (Herndon, VA) and Raytheon Automated Systems have formed a strategic partnership aimed at broadening the reach of the POMS manufacturing execution system (MES) for healthcare products and consumer packaged goods. POMS’ solutions are used to control and manage the production of products that are subject to regulatory and consumer quality requirements.
• ProVantage’s ProV-Query solution will be distributed by Systems Xcellence (Milton, Ontario) as part of the latter’s Healthcare Xcellence suite, under the name HX-Eval. HX-Eval is a web-enabled pharmaceutical decision support software system that provides desktop access to a variety of data to help customers better determine where plan changes are necessary.
• Quintiles Transnational (Research Triangle Park, NC) has completed its acquisition of Envoy Corp. (Nashville), a provider of healthcare electronic data interchange and data analysis services. Envoy’s electronic healthcare network links providers and payers; it processes more than 1 billion electronic transactions a year. The deal was completed on Tuesday, one day after Quintiles completed its acquisition of Scott-Levin, a pharmaceutical and managed care market information and research services company.
• Simione Central Holdings (Atlanta) has acquired Tropical Software Services, a Windows-based home medical equipment (HME) management system. Simione paid $1.8 million in cash and 100,000 shares of Simione stock for the acquisition. Tropical’s product is based on client/server architecture using industry standard Microsoft Windows and SQL Server technologies and provides the functions to manage an HME business, including: retail and rental sales, scheduling, accounts receivable, accounts payable, claims processing, and inventory control.
• Spotfire (Cambridge, MA) and Phase Forward (Waltham, MA) have announced a joint marketing agreement under which the companies will market Phase Forward’s InForm clinical trial data management software and Spotfire Pro discovery software to clinical trial sponsors and scientific researchers. Used together, the solutions can provide researchers with a web-based clinical trial data management and analysis solution.
• Sunquest Information Systems (Tucson, AZ) and New Era of Networks (NEON) have reached agreements the companies say will strengthen their respective market positions. Sunquest is selling to NEON its Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI) product, which permits the linkage of patient information even if it originated in disparate systems throughout an enterprise. The companies amended a previous agreement that will give Sunquest a non-exclusive right and license to embed NEON’s Transaction Distribution Manager product, which simplifies the performance of inter-application data interchange.
