Reports From the Field: Online technology reduces risk of heart attack, stroke
A free, online interactive program helps people at risk for coronary heart disease and stroke decrease their risk.
MyHeartWatch(sm), a comprehensive web site developed by the American Heart Association, features interactive tools such as Know Your Heart Attack Risk, an online assessment that predicts a person’s risk of having a heart attack within the next 10 years. The assessment uses information from the Framingham Heart Study and is based on the National Cholesterol Education Program and Adult Treatment Panel III.
Other components of the web site include Ask-an-Expert, where questions and posted, then selected and answered by an expert panel; Nutrition Calculation, a diet and nutrition calculator that allows participants to create customized meal plans and see how close they come to meeting nutritional goals; chat rooms; discussion goods; and a behavioral modification program that provides individually tailored health and behavioral information that will help lower risk of heart attack and stroke.
The Web site is at www.myheartwatch.org.
