Fax campaign smears hospital-based agencies

The Home Care Association of America (HCAA) has launched another attack on hospital-based providers, this time through a fax campaign sent to its members. In a sample letter that home care providers are urged to send, the HCAA charges among other things:

Dear Precious Patient/or Caregiver: Since 1993, home care expenditures have skyrocketed, due largely to the fact that hospitals across America began to buy out private home health agencies and to funnel their hospital patients directly to their own agencies. The average hospital-based agency costs the Medicare program $15 to $30 more per visit than (your agency’s name).

If you wish to comment, you may contact the HCAA at (800) 386-4222.
