Raise public awareness of caregiving issues
November is National Family Caregivers Month. Sponsored by the National Family Caregivers Association (NFCA) in Kensington, MD, it’s designed to show appreciation for family caregivers and increase public awareness about caregiving issues. The theme for 2000, "Share the Caring," acknowledges that caregiving is more than a one-person job.
To help raise awareness of the plight of family caregivers during the month of November, NFCA offers the following suggestions:
• Help your local library put together a book display about caregiving.
• Gather caregiver stories and share them with the local media.
• Honor local caregivers by sponsoring a prize drawing for respite time, a dinner out,
or free handyman services.
• Host a day of workshops for family caregivers with lots of resource information.
The organization has a kit of material available with planned activities, posters, buttons, and educational pieces. Prices for kits and individual materials, as well as order forms are available on the NFCA Web site at: www.nfcacares.org.
