Preventive Health Index tracks national trends
Oxford Health Plans, a managed care organization based in Norwalk, CT, has released what it calls the Preventive Health Index, the first in a series of profiles tracking national health trends against a cross-section of more than 1.32 million people enrolled in its plans. It compares both with the U.S. Government’s Healthy People 2000 goals. At present, the index tracks childhood immunization, prenatal care, cervical cancer, mammography, and cholesterol screenings.
"We want the public to understand that early detection and diagnosis can help members avoid the onset of serious illnesses and probably save lives," says Frank Medici, MD, medical director of Oxford. "This means visiting your physician regularly, getting the necessary preventive screenings, performing self-exams, and, above all, maintaining a healthy lifestyle."
