Apria sets sights on core services
Apria Healthcare Group of Costa Mesa, CA, recently announced it will discontinue non-core services such as subcontracted nursing, medical supplies, and women’s health. As a result, it will focus more on its core services, which include home infusion, respiratory therapy, and home medical equipment.
"Those three businesses are core businesses, so we will focus on those more fully than we have in the past," Apria spokeswoman Sheree L. Aronson says.
She notes that Apria had entered into managed care agreements to provide services beyond the three core service areas but found the services did not generate adequate profits.
"You can’t purchase a $40 bag of medical supplies, have it delivered to a patient’s home, bill a third-party payer, follow up to make sure you get paid, handle all the collection, and make any money on that transaction," adds Aronson. "So we will focus on the core services that we have delivered over time and that we are recognized in and can do a good job for patients."
