JCAHO to hold conference for hospice, home health
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations will convene its Third National Conference and Exhibition for Home Care and Hospice on July 25 and 26 at the Drake Hotel in Chicago. "Positioning Home Care and Hospice for Excellence in the 21st Century" will emphasize issues of outcomes measurement, including the University of Colorado’s OASIS (Outcomes and Assessment Information Set) system and Health Care Financing Administration activities in this area. Other themes include quality improvement, change management, diversification, and preparing for Joint Commission accreditation. The conference also will include sessions for home medical equipment and home pharmacy providers and a post-conference briefing on ORYX: The Next Evolution in Accreditation, the Joint Commission’s new initiative to integrate the use of performance measurement data into the home care accreditation program (see Hospice Management Advisor, April 1997, p. 47).
The Joint Commission recently issued Care Planning: A Guide for Home Care and Hospice Organizations, aimed at helping these providers meet its standards related to care planning and to continuously improve outcomes for their patients.
