Here are several organizations and governmental agencies that provide information on food safety:• The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the Food Safety and Inspection Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture have food safety information on their Web sites. Some of the information includes Nature and Extent of Food-borne Disease, the Bad Bug Book, Handling Eggs Safely at Home, Can Your Kitchen Pass the Food Safety Test? and Seniors Need Wisdom on Food Safety. The Web address for the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition is http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov. The Web address for the Food Safety and Inspection Service is http://www.usda.gov. agency/fsis. You also can receive information on the FDA’s Food Code, a reference that guides retail outlets and institutions on how to prepare food to prevent food-borne illness, by calling (202) 205-4144.
• The American Dietetic Association, 216 W. Jackson Blvd., Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60606. Some of its brochures on food safety include: Safe Keeping for Safe Eating, Safe Cooking for Safe Eating, and Food-borne Illness at Home: How and Why What You Eat Can Make You Sick.
