Coming soon: A new breed of manager?
Coming soon: A new breed of manager?
We have already seen the future of health care, where those providers who can cut costs deepest while maintaining quality of care will be the winners.
Now the School of Public Health at Yale University in New Haven, CT, is training a new generation of health care managers to lead us into that future.
In what is believed to be the only one of its kind, Yale has launched a two-year degree program called the Health Management Program that provides a combination of training in public health and management. Graduates will hold a master of public health degree. They are expected to be recruited for managed care positions by hospitals, HMOs, insurance companies, consulting firms, or community clinics, according to the Yale University School of Public Health.
Students take core courses required by the school of public health, including introduction to biostatistics, principles of epidemiology, and health policy and health care in the United States. They also take the core courses at the school of management and complete an internship in a managed care setting.
