Standards set for senior centers
First accredited centers announced
The National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC) in Washington, DC, recently made the job of selecting a quality senior center for your elderly clients easier with the announcement of the first eight U.S. senior centers to receive national accreditation. NISC is an organization of senior centers and professionals who are part of the National Council on Aging in Washington, DC. Accredita tion is based on peer review, an on-site visit, adherence to standards and guidelines issued by NISC, and a recommendation to accredit by the national Senior Center Accreditation Board.
The first eight centers to earn accreditation are:
4 Chinese Senior Center, Phoenix;
4 Garland Senior Activity Center, Garland, TX;
4 HJC Bowden Senior Multipurpose Facility, East Point, GA;
4 North Shore Senior Center, Northfield, IL;
4 Odessa Senior Center, Odessa, MO;
4 Princeton (NJ) Senior Resource Center;
4 South Mountain Community Center, Phoenix;
4 Theodora G. Jackson Adult Center, Jamaica, NY.
