Here are some basic facts that should help you make decisions about which educational opportunities best fit your personal experience and professional needs. This list is by no means complete. COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Program: Post-graduate certificate program in case management. Applicants must have bachelor’s degree. Two courses offered each eight-week cycle. Must complete six courses to receive certificate. Cost: $200 per course.
2. Lynn University, 3601 N. Military Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Phone: (561) 994-0770.
Program: Post-graduate certificate program in case management. Applicants must have bachelor’s degree. Certificate requires total of 18 course credits and three credits for 500 hours of internship. Courses offered in the evenings. Cost: about $300 per credit hour.
3. Texas Gerontological Consortium for Continuing Education. E-mail: elees@utsph. sph.uth.tmc.edu.
Program: 25 community colleges that offer 60-hour certificate program in case management with focus on long-term or elderly care management. Most applicants have bachelor’s degrees, but it is not a strict requirement. Applicants must complete field experience in addition to course work. Cost: varies by institution.
4. Villanova University, Villanova College of Nursing, 800 Lancaster Ave., Villanova, PA 19085. Phone: (610) 519-4934.
Program: Two-year master’s degree in nursing program. A total of 45 credits necessary for graduation. Applicants must have bachelor’s degree. Cost: $430 per credit.
5. Vanderbilt University, Vanderbilt School of Nursing, 461 21st Ave. S., Nashville, TN 37240. Phone: (615) 322-3800.
Program: Master’s of nursing offered. Applicants with bachelor’s in nursing must complete 39 credits. Applicants with bachelor’s in other fields must complete a total of 85 credits. Cost: $643 per credit.
6. Pacific Lutheran University, School of Nursing, Tacoma, WA 98447-0003. Phone: (253) 535-7674.
Program: Two-year master’s program in nursing. Applicants must have bachelor’s degree. About 32 credits required for degree, depending on undergraduate program. Cost: $473 per credit.
7. University of San Diego, Hahn School of Nursing, 5998 Acala Park, San Diego, CA 92110-2492. Phone: (619) 260-4548.
Program: Offers two-year master’s program in nursing. Applicants must complete 40 credits. Cost: $555 per credit.
8. Samuel Merritt College, 370 Hawthorne Ave., Oakland, CA 94609. Phone: (510) 869-6576.
Program: Thirty-month post-professional master’s program. Cost: $580 per credit.
9. Sonoma State University, Nursing Department, 1801 E. Cotati Ave., Rohernt Park, CA 94928. Phone: (707) 664-2778.
Program: Master’s of nursing in case management offered for applicants with bachelor’s in nursing and RN license. Also, post master’s certificate in case management open to non-nurses. Master’s program takes five semesters with six to seven credits per semester at cost of $180 per credit. Certificate program takes three semesters and total of 13 to 21 credits depending on applicant’s master’s program.

Program: Two-year master’s program in nursing. Applicants must complete 60 credits. Cost: $677 per credit.

Program: Graduate diploma in case management offered by Internet. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field. Course includes six subjects of 12 weeks duration each. Course takes about 18 months to complete.
PRIVATE EDUCATION/TRAINING COMPANIES

Program: Intelicus is a partnership owned jointly by the University of Florida and TKG (The Kirven Group). Offers a certificate program in life care planning. Applicants must have a bachelor’s in an appropriate field, preferably rehabilitation. Must complete 120 hours for the certificate program. Program recognized as provider of continuing education hours for several national accrediting and licensing boards. Courses divided into eight modules. Modules one through six are two-day sessions. Cost: $445. Module seven is self-study. Cost: $225. Module eight requires applicants to complete life care plan in six weeks. Plan reviewed with detailed critique. Cost: $445. Cost per module: $495 for late registration. Courses offered in several locations nationwide. In 1998, course offered in Atlanta, New Orleans, Orlando, Los Angeles.
2. Case Management Institute of Connecticut Community Care, 43 Enterprise Dr., Bristol, CT 06010-7472. Phone: (800) 972-3851. Ask for Cheryl Whitman or Helen Notarangelo.
Program: Full- and half-day seminars on care and case management. Offerings include physical aspects of aging, humor in care management, super caregiver syndrome, and comprehensive assessment. Call toll-free number above for free catalog of seminars.

Program: Presents full-day course called "The Process of Case Management: Basic to Advanced." Offers certificate of completion and eight hours of continuing education for nurses. Attendees receive 200-page workbook. Cost: $175. Other programs available including in-house training programs.

Program: Two-day basic "how-to" course in case management for clinicians interested in learning more about case management. Cost: $320, with discounts available. Certificate of attendance offered for application toward continuing education credits and expense reimbursement. Also offers one-day preparation course for the case management certification (CCM) examination. The Commission for Case Management Certification in Rolling Meadows, IL, does not endorse or support this or any other CCM prep course.
