This program will cover national sepsis care in 2015 with a specific focus on the now famous NYU pediatric sepsis case that lead to 405 DOH reform in New York State. A review of the most up to date literature will be undertaken and regulations will be compared to best practice as evidenced by the medical literature.
Dr. Paolo will illuminate the evolving landscape of sepsis management and diagnosis in the light of changing literature and statewide department of health regulations. As famous cases have made their way into the lay literature with demands for reform following their exposition, the provider is faced with adhering to these standards while attempting to provide cutting edge care. It is not clear however that standardizing care results in maximally effective patient care. Nor is it obvious that achieving total compliance is desirable or will result in the least measured harm across populations.
