This webinar focuses on the critical evaluation of current weight management strategies and policies to deal with childhood obesity. In addition, obesity issues relating to the obesogenic environment and socio-cultural factors will be discussed. Appreciate the current strategies for weight management and obesity prevention in children. Develop an understanding of the obesity policies. Enhance skills in the practical assessment and the formulation of obesity interventions.
There has been a sharp rise in the prevalence of obesity among children over the last 20 years in the UK and US, with over a sixth of children being affected by obesity. Children who are obese or overweight at higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes and mental health issues. They would also be more likely to become adults with overweight or obesity burdened by a host of medical ad psychological complications. Therefore, there are high demands on healthcare services and professionals to take effective actions in order to tackle this major global health concern. This requires an evidence-based consistent approach across all areas of health care. However, the extent of education and training programs available to health professionals does not match the enormous burden of obesity-related conditions imposed on them. Establishing comprehensive multidisciplinary strategies that target obesity at all levels of prevention and care would result in substantial improvement in clinical outcomes, quality of life, survival and medico-economic costs related to obesity.
