Safe Opioid Use: CMS CoPs
By Dana Spector, Associate Managing Editor, AHC Media
Each year, serious adverse events, including fatalities, are associated with the use of IV opioid medications in hospitals. Opioid-induced respiratory depression has resulted in patient deaths that might have been prevented had staff assessed and prepared properly.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, an estimated one-third of all hospital adverse events are related to Adverse Drug Events (ADEs), affecting approximately 2 million hospital stays and prolonging the length of hospital stays by approximately 1.7-4.6 days.
AHC Media’s speaker, Sue Dill Calloway, will lead a new webinar: “Safe Opioid Use: CMS CoPs” on February 7 to guide your team through the new updates. During this session, we'll discuss the revised standards on safe opioid use, IV medication and blood transfusion as well as the ISMP IV Push guidelines for adults, National Action Plan for ADR prevention related to the opioid recommendations, the CDC final opioid guidelines, and so much more.
