Gary Evans is executive editor of the infection control publications group at AHC Media in Atlanta and long-time editor/writer of Hospital Infection Control & Prevention (HIC). As HIC editor since 1987, Evans has interviewed hundreds of infection control experts and written numerous articles on wide ranging topics that include antibiotic-resistant pathogens, bloodborne infections, outbreaks and emerging new diseases like SARS and H1N1 pandemic influenza A. Evans’ stories in HIC have won four prestigious National Press Club awards for analytical news writing. A veteran of 30 years in journalism, Evans received his master’s degree from the University of Georgia Henry Grady School of Journalism. He holds a B.A. in English from the Christopher Newport College of the College of William & Mary. Prior to becoming editor of HIC in 1987, Evans was a news writer for the Athens Daily News, where he won an Associated Press Public Service Award and the first annual Freedom of Information Award from the Georgia Press Association. He lives in Watkinsville, GA at the mercy of a wife, daughter, three cats, and two dogs (one of which is house broken).
