• Askesis Development Group (Chicago) has signed 10 separate licensing agreements for its PsychConsult software with facilities in Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio. The software is a practice management and managed care system designed for behavioral health.
• Compucare (Reston, VA) has signed contracts with the Pacific Hospital (Long Beach, CA) and the Rehabilitation Institute (Santa Barbara, CA) to install its AffinitySTAT system. The company also has completed installation of the Affinity system at Great Plains Regional Medical Center (North Platte, NE).
• DataCard (Minneapolis) said it will be expanding implementation of its SmartRec portable patient information system at Catholic HealthCare Partners (Chicago) after a successful pilot program at a Cincinnati physician practice. The system allows consumers to carry medical and demographic information on a smart care. The implementation will be done in phases as the card gains acceptance.
• Dell Computer (Round Rock, TX) is producing 6,000 OptiPlex desktop computers for the Group Health Cooperative (Seattle) as part of an updating and a means of dealing with Y2K issues. The project is valued at up to $10 million.
• e-MedSoft.com (Jacksonville Beach, FL), formerly known as MedTech Inc., has been selected by American Healthguard (Los Angeles), a dental HMO, to provide a subscription-based health care management system through the Internet. Users will access e-MedSoft.com software via the Internet for a set fee and a per-transaction charge, rather than paying an up-front fee. e-MedSoft.com also has been chosen to provide linkage of more than 4,000 physicians and dozens of hospitals for First Integrated Health (Torrance, CA).
• InterSystems (LOCATION???) has completed installation of its Provider Order-Entry System at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). The system is the result of development efforts by Partners HealthCare System (Boston), which includes more than 4,000 Boston area physicians. The clinical support application was first implemented at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston).
• Preferred Medical Marketing (Charlotte, NC) has contracted with Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Akron, OH) for software to model prospective managed care contract terms and to audit payments and track existing agreements. The system, PMMC Contract Pro, helps identify underpayments from managed care companies and audits actual vs. expected reimbursements.
• Prospect Associates (Silver Spring, MD) will be developing and installing technology to translate research findings to health care professionals and consumers under a contract with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (Bethesda, MD). The project will include program planning, a web site, and database design and development.
• Quality Systems (Tustin, CA) will be implementing its Clinical Product Suite at Arbor Dental (Arvada, CO). The system makes computerized clinical charting and digital X-ray and intra-oral imaging available to practitioners.
• Symbol Technologies (New York) is implementing its open-standard, wireless LAN and voice communications network at Bellevue Hospital (also New York). Bellevue will be using the Spectrum24 system information management system, and Symbol’s NetVision phones, which will replace pagers for in-house communications. The company also said that Duke University Medical Center (Durham, NC) is using its SPT 1500 palm-size computer for physician charge capture.
• Systems Consulting (Portland, ME) said Premier Inc. (Charlotte, NC) has selected the company’s CARS/IS system to manage contracts between its 1,700 members and more than 600 manufacturers.
