• Federal Data Corp. (FDC; Bethesda, MD) reported that the company’s Health Systems Sector has been awarded a five-year, $19.5 million contract by the FDA’s National Center for Toxicological Research (NCTR) to provide scientific computing and information technology support. The contract was awarded under the FDA SISTIR contract, for which FDC is a subcontractor to TRW. NCTR is a biomedical research organization that conducts fundamental and applied research to define the underlying causes for the toxicity of products regulated by the FDA. FDC’s role is to support the center’s strategic goals by providing IT and scientific computing services.
• Infectech (Sharon, PA) reported that its wholly owned subsidiary, MD-Diagnostics.com Inc., has been selected to provide Internet services to Affilliated Pathologists Medical Group (Torrance, CA), a major private pathology medical group. Mitchell Felder, president of Infectech, said that the company’s goal is to "rapidly expand into the medial field of radiology and microbiology utilizing the Internet."
• Software Technologies (STC; Monrovia, CA), provider of Enterprise Application Integration technology, said that MidMichigan Health (Midland, MI) has completed the first phase of implementing STC’s Universal Index enterprisewide master person index solution to share patient data records among separate healthcare entities using disparate healthcare information systems. MidMichigan Health serves residents throughout central Michigan, and comprises 14 organizations, including three hospitals, urgent care facilities, a physicians group, nursing care facilities, an imaging center, and regional dialysis services. The organization was faced with the problem of keeping track of patients who visited multiple facilities within the network. Universal Index translates and assigns a global identifier to each patient record across MidMichigan’s entire healthcare system, while allowing local systems to operate independently.
