New Web site dispenses orthopedic information
Video demonstrations also provided
The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) has launched a Web site called Orthopaedic Knowledge Online that provides instant access to video demonstrations and information about the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various musculoskeletal disorders.
Users can tap into the academy’s resources, including orthopedic materials and surgical procedures. The information is provided free to members of AAOS.
AAOS plans to make the site an evolving library that will have new information added continuously, with as many as 20 topics posted by the end of 2002. The site is on-line at www.aaos.org/oko.
Also, AAOS has launched a Web site that provides on-line complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) information to the public, as well as to health care providers.
The CAM site can be accessed through the AAOS Web site at www.aaos.org. Highlight the public and media relations tab and click on "newsroom," and then scroll down to the CAM icon.
AAOS has 25,500 members and is a not-for-profit organization that provides education programs to orthopedic surgeons, allied health professionals, and the public.
AAOS also is participating in the Bone and Joint Decade global initiative during the years 2000-2010. The initiative is designed to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health, stimulate research in the field, and improve the public’s quality of life. For more information about the initiative, visit www.boneandjointdecade.org.
