Consumers dissatisfied with managed care, survey finds
In a recent survey by Louis Harris and Associates, 54% of Americans said they believe that the trend towards managed care is harmful for them, an increase from 43% last year. Another survey published in Health Affairs reported that physicians are as dissatisfied as consumers.
The latest poll by Harris showed a 44% tie-in response to whether the trend toward managed care is positive or negative. Two years ago, 59% liked the trend, and 28% did not.
Another survey of 1,000 consumers found that their regard for for-profit organizations has also plummeted in the past five months. The opinion that for-profit hospitals provided better care dropped from 55% to 42%.
But in spite of deteriorating public opinions of managed care, surveys also showed that 80% of consumers are more content with the care they themselves receive, whether from the new or old system, as opposed to the less than satisfied feeling toward health care in the past two decades.
