Waiver provides personal care to Ohio disabled
The Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (ODMRDD) has received approval for a new Title XIX (Medicaid) home and community-based services waiver.
This approval, given by Baltimore-based Health Care Financing Administration, will allow about 3,300 eligible individuals with mental retardation or other developmental disability residing in licensed residential care facilities to receive Medicaid-funded services as an alternative to placement in an intermediate care facility.
The waiver will provide homemaker and personal care services, adaptive and assistive equipment and supplies, and supported employment services. HCFA approved the waiver for a renewable three-year period, says Fred L. Williams, Deputy Director for ODMRDD’s Division of Residential Services. Williams indicated he will spearhead implementation of the waiver in collaboration with providers and county boards of MRDD.
It is anticipated the waiver will be implemented during state fiscal year 1998, which begins July 1. Consumers, families, county boards of MRDD, and providers of service who desire further information on the waiver may contact the Division of Residential Services at ODMRDD at (614) 466-7508.
