Certified Nursing Assistant
Recent experience in maternal child health is preferred and recommended when recruiting for this specialty area. Candidate will complete the standard application and based on experience and references will be further screened through interview. A review of the prospective employees’ knowledge of the outlined topics will further determine the best match and or suitability for this division of nursing care.
Basic nutrition for mother, infant, and child
Proper feeding techniques and positioning
Breast feeding
Bathing
Newborn: baths, circumcision, and cord care
Vital signs: adult, newborn, and child
Postpartum: care and comfort
Diaper care
Proper sleep positions for newborns
Use of bulb syringes
Lifting techniques
Infant safety practices
Seizure precautions
Knowledge of specific disease states: cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, seizure disorders
Assessment is made on the desire to learn and ability to work within socially challenging environments. It is recommended that several case scenarios are presented and an opportunity for the prospective employee to respond to questions regarding the case presented. It is essential to work towards the best case match possible. Most of the cases in this division are lengthy in duration and continuity is extremely important.
Candidates are further screened with a standardized CNA test and skill review before a final decision is made as to employment eligibility.
