Lung surgery payments stopped
The Health Care Financing Administration has temporarily suspended reimbursement for lung volume reduction surgery until a clinical assessment of late-stage emphysema patients has been completed. The agency said "a nontrivial proportion of patients" has been killed by the procedure. It wants to see if subsets of patients can have the surgery with low risk.
