IMS Health confirms earnings growth, reports new contract
Victoria Fash, president and COO of IMS Health (Westport, CT), a leading provider of pharmaceutical and healthcare information systems, said Wednesday that IMS remains "comfortable" with earnings and per-share growth estimates for both the fourth quarter and full year for 1998, ended Dec. 31.
"We expect to exceed our 21% to 24% EPS growth range for full year 1998," Fash said in a company statement. "Further, we are confirming previous guidance to sustain 21% to 24% EPS growth for full year 1999." IMS will announce its 1998 results after market close on Feb. 17, she said.
In other news, the company reported that Bayer plc (London) has selected IMS’s Health Strategic Technologies (also London) unit to support 300 users throughout Bayer in the U.K. and Ireland via Premiere, IMS's next-generation sales support system.
Premiere is a state-of-the-art Windows-based sales and marketing support technology, with Bayer using it to share and integrate sales and marketing to sales force laptops. Implementation is scheduled to begin immediately.
Mike Turner, IMS Health Strategic Technologies’ general manager, UK, said that Bayer's choice of Premiere was made after "a thorough competitive analysis we are pleased to have been selected as Bayer’s supplier of choice, and are committed to establishing a working partnership with the Bayer team.'"
In related news, IMS Health Strategic Technologies has reported a customer base of more than 35,000 users worldwide.
IMS Health Strategic Technologies also reported that direct-to-consumer (DTC) pharmaceutical advertising in the U.S. continued to grow last year, reaching $1.2 billion through November 1998. Together, the top DTC spenders invested 44% more in advertising to consumers than in promoting their brands to physicians, spending $665 million toward consumers and $462 million in professional promotion.
