• IMS Health (IMS; London) said that H. Lundbeck A/S (Denmark) has licensed IMS’s Strategic Technologies Premiere sales and marketing automation technology initially to support 500 remote users in its pharmaceutical sales force. The product will be used in 13 languages to integrate and share sales and marketing information in 18 countries worldwide, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Flemming Jensen, executive vice president of H. Lundbeck, praised IMS as offering "the ideal combination of leading-edge technology, product support infrastructure and unmatched experience in supporting the requirements of a pharmaceutical sales force like ours." Strategic Technologies will support the Lundbeck sales forces with various features including a customized core database, integrated planning and customized activity reporting and analysis, e-mail integration, territory allocation, telecommunications, sales and profiling data. Lundbeck A/S offers pharmaceutical focused on treating diseases of the central nervous system• McKessonHBOC’s (San Francisco) Amisys health insurance and managed care information systems have been adopted by Perot Systems (Dallas) to expand its product offerings with Amisys Open, a new three-tier, client/server system that features multi-option functionality, distributed processing, and database portability. Perot Systems’ staff will use Amisys Open for processing claims, membership, benefits, billing, and other business transactions on behalf of payer- and provider-based managed care organizations. Perot Systems has provided Amisys timeshare services for more than five years to organizations that want to take use Amisys processing power without additional technology investment.
• Preferred Medical Marketing (PMMC; Charlotte, NC) has been chosen as software supplier for Children’s Hospital Medical Center (Akron, OH). The hospital has purchased PMMC Contract Pro software to help it identify underpayments from managed care companies. Con tract Pro audits actual payments versus expected reimbursements, identifies outstanding balances, and ex plains how reimbursements were calculated based on the contractual term, potentially eliminating costly payer disputes.
• ThinkMed (Milwaukee) reported that Hyperion3 (Nashville) has selected ThinkMed Expert as the medical management decision support system for its newly introduced HealthStrata program. HealthStrata is a population-based health management program supporting state-operated or state-contracted Medicaid managed care operations. ThinkMed technology will provide Hyperion3’s clients with patient and population profiling services, including early identification of at-risk patients and grouping of patients for targeted medical management interventions. The process involves linking claims (ICD, CPT, HCPCS), pharmaceutical, demographic and provider data into a centralized repository. ThinkMed Expert features rule-based logic to filter data to target patients at risk for clinical deterioration, financial escalation and increased utilization. This provides a window of opportunity to implement case management, disease management, education and prevention programs and other cost-containment, quality improvement initiatives.
