• Alpha Bytes (Niagara Falls, NY), a software provider for the vision care industry, has reached an agreement in which MedInformatix will market Alpha Bytes' H-NET transaction and software services to MedInformatix customers. MedInformatix offers a Microsoft Windows-based software system for ophthalmology and physician practices. Alpha Bytes says it is on a fast track in transforming itself into an Internet-based electronic transaction service provider.
• Eclipsys (Delray, Beach, FL) has established an alliance with Ultimate Software (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in which Eclipsys will market and sell the latter’s UltiPro HRMS/Payroll to its customer base as part of the Eclipsys Sunrise Resource Planning Manager. The two companies will jointly develop an interface to integrate the systems.
• Two related agreements have been reached by e-MedSoft.com (Los Angeles) under which it has obtained the rights to acquire from Sanga International (St. Michael, Barbados, West Indies) a group of software companies operating in the United Kingdom. As part of the arrangement, the two concerns terminate a software license dated last December regarding the rights to market and distribute e-MedSoft.com’s Internet-capable healthcare management software. A payment of nearly $2 million is still due, and the names of the companies were not disclosed. Also, e-MedSoft.com has signed its first HMO contract with American Healthguard Corp., which provides managed dental care to about 21,000 people in Southern California.
• HealthPlus (Walnut Creek, CA), a shared services affiliate of the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California, has formed a partnership with DB Technology (Iselin, NJ) to offer members a report, analysis, and distribution product called the Report Automation System. The software electronically captures reports as they are created, the compresses, stores, and distributes them electronically based on user-selected criteria.
• Outcome Inc. (Austin, TX) and the Institute for Research and Education (Minneapolis) are partnering to develop health risk assessment products, which will be integrated into Outlook’s Patient Communicator. The institute is a subsidiary of HealthSystem Minnesota and includes the Health Education Center, Health Research Center, International Diabetes Center, and the Rheumatology Treatment and Resource Center. The Communicator connects physicians and their patients via the Internet or a local network to send and receive messages, review education and wellness material, and input data on health status.
• Telemedic Systems (Redmond, WA) will integrate the Dinamap NIBP technology produced by Critikon (Tampa, FL) in Telemedic’s remote vital signs VitalLink monitoring unit. The unit is designed for remote military and commercial emergency telemedicine. The system was carried recently on around-the-world balloon ventures and has been tried successfully in trials from the Mt. Everest Base Camp in Nepal. The system bundles an open plug-and-play mobile computer architecture and a portfolio of Food and Drug Administration-approved diagnostic vital signs monitoring technologies with POTS, ISDN, network, cellular, and satellite communication technologies.
• The TriZetto Group (Newport Beach, CA) has acquired the technology and outsourcing division of Management & Technology Solutions (Louisville). The products and services acquired include outsourced access to the Medical Manager Practice Management System, central billing services, patient messaging system, and its proprietary intranet technology. Those functions will continue to be located in Louisville. The TriZetto Group, a physician practice outsourcing company, previously purchased Creative Business Solutions and the Healthweb Sys tem.
