• Autros Healthcare Solutions (Toronto) has developed the Point of Care Medication Management system, which links physicians, nursing and the pharmacy to the information they need at the point of care. The system uses the SPT 1740 Palm Computer and Spectru24 Wireless Local Area Network from Symbol Technologies (Holtsville, NY) for bar code scanning, mobile computing, and wireless networking.
• Delta Marketing Dynamics (Jamesville, NY) has unveiled the Y2K Drug Supply Monitor, which is designed to measure critical product movement figures for the top 20 branded pharmaceutical drugs. The first of eight monthly reports gives manufacturers a perspective on supply and demand trends of retail pharmacies in light of concerns about the Y2K computer bug. The series will offer information on inventory, purchasing, distribution, and sales patterns of all retail pharmacies.
• IDEXX Laboratories (Westbrook, ME) has partnered with MedServe Link (Minneapolis) to develop an Internet-based product for veterinary hospitals. The new enterprise, called VetConnect, will use Internet technology to connect veterinarians to information, colleagues, distributors, manufacturers, reference laboratories, and other suppliers. The product will help veterinarians obtain laboratory results, request additional information, consult medical databases and specialists, order pharmaceuticals and supplies, host their own web sites, and communicate with clients.
• IPNI (Scottsdale, AZ) says a yearlong trial has shown its videoconferencing network, which connects pharmaceutical companies with primary care physicians, is working. The trial in California, New Jersey, New York, and Arizona with five pharmaceutical companies showed an overall increase in products delivered and an increase in prescription volume.
• Ormed Information Systems (Dallas) has been endorsed by HealthShare/THA, a subsidiary of the Texas Hospital Association. Ormed’s Materials Management Suite includes materials management, inventory sales, remote requisitioning and receiving, and vendor contract management
• Shared Medical Systems (Malvern, PA) has unveiled its Remote Computing Option for Novius Data Warehouse with Executive View Release 1.2. Novius integrates clinical, demographic, administrative, and financial information across a health enterprise to provide health professionals with tools to help measure clinical and business outcomes, managed change, and improve operations.
• A new smart care pilot program by Siemens Information and Communications Network (Boca Raton, FL) to manage health information and administration tasks of the North Dakota state health and food benefits program has been unveiled. The Health Passport Project will be rolled out over the next four months across three communities in the state to illustrate how the cards can be used to improve information sharing. The state and federally funded project was formally presented June 14 to the governors of 11 other states at the Western Governors Association annual meeting in Jackson, WY.
