• Base Ten Systems (Trenton, NJ) has completed its previously announced acquisition of Almedica Technology Group (ATG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Almedica International. Base Ten said the transaction will establish it as the first company to offer a fully integrated clinical supply chain management solution that includes inventory control, electronic batch records, manufacturing automation, trial design, labeling, packaging, randomization distribution and return management. Thomas Gardner, chairman and CEO of Base Ten, said, "Our acquisition of Almedica Technology Group will secure Base Ten’s leadership in clinical supplies management solutions, enabling us to serve our customers more broadly, and helping them bring pharmaceutical products to market more quickly." Base Ten is acquiring ATG for 3.95 million newly issued Base Ten shares. Robert Bronstein, formerly president of ATG, is becoming president of the Base Ten Applications Software Division. Base Ten is licensing its integrated clinical supply management solution to the three clinical packaging sites of Almedica International, in Waldwick, NJ, Deeside, United Kingdom, and Reinach, Switzerland, as well as clinical materials logistics software to Almedica’s newest unit, Almedica GmbH, in Mannheim, Germany. Base Ten Systems focuses on manufacturing execution systems and services for the pharmaceutical, chemicals and medical products industries.
• Medical Pathways International (Denver) has entered into an agreement in principle to acquire Women’s Health Interactive (WHI), an online health and wellness Internet site for women. "The addition of Women’s Health Interactive to the Medical Pathways family brings an important new component to the health information services the company can offer. Since its inception just three years ago, WHI has been a leader in providing a wide range of health-related information services specifically tailored to women," said Michael Lasky, CEO of Medical Pathways. WHI specializes in the design, development and delivery of health education for women through interactive digital technologies. The founders of WHI, H. Gene Hodge and Marilyn Hodge, will join the Medical Pathways management team, Gene Hodge as president and Marilyn Hodge as senior vice president. Marilyn also will continue as president of WHI.
• Medicheck Services (Los Angeles), a provider of information technology and electronic data interchange services to the healthcare industry, has formed an alliance with CrossCheck (Rohnert Park, CA), a check approval company. The check guarantee service broadens the range of product available through Medicheck, and offers healthcare providers another method of payment collection. Check guarantee is available as a function on Medicheck’s Omni and Tranz point of service terminals. In addition to the check guarantee service, the Omni terminal supports a variety of functions, including health insurance eligibility verification and credit/debit card processing. The Tranz terminal is dedicated to credit/debit processing.
