The medical literature is full of articles on post-polio syndrome (PPS). Yet, many physicians are unfamiliar with PPS symptoms and treatment. Case managers working with PPS patients may want to have the following resources on hand to help increase physician awareness of this debilitating condition:

The International Polio Network in St. Louis publishes several consumer brochures on post-polio syndrome, including The Late Effects of Polio: An Overview. In addition, the following resources are available:
• Handbook on the Late Effects of Poliomyelitis for Physicians and Survivors. This guide covers basic information about the late effects of polio. The cost is $6.75 postpaid.
• Polio Network News. This quarterly newsletter keeps polio survivors informed about issues related to polio and its late effects. The cost is $16 annually in the United States and $21 annually in Canada. A sample copy is available on request.
• Post-Polio Directory. This directory includes a listing of PPS clinics, health professionals, and self-help groups. It is published each year in March. The cost is $4.
