JCAHO plans survey of community health centers
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) has won a competitive contract from the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) of the Health Resources and Services Administration, U.S. Public Health Service to conduct accreditation surveys of selected community/migrant health centers and other BPHC-supported organizations.
The one-year, annually-renewable contract calls for the Oakbrook Terrace, IL-based Commission to begin surveying this year. The bureau funds approximately 700 community health centers, which provide health care for over 8 million medically underserved and uninsured populations.
For those community health centers already accredited, the Commission project will seek to streamline and combine their quality improvement programs to comply with a single performance standard.
