• AHT Corp. (Tarrytown, NY) and Merck-Medco Managed Care (Columbus, OH) are launching a pilot program to provide Internet-based prescription management services. The program will be directed at physicians located in up to four major metropolitan areas, expanding on a six-month trial program in New Jersey by adding as many as 200 additional physicians. AHT Internet-enabled software will be used in the point-of-care program.
• Apache Medical Systems (McLean, VA) reports that Catholic Healthcare West (San Francisco) has signed a corporate-level agreement to offer Apache’s Critical Care Benchmarking services to CHW-affiliated hospitals. In addition to providing the services to member hospitals, Apache also will provide health system-level outcomes and resources analysis services.
• Axolotl (Mountain View, CA) and Helus (formerly Matrix Information Services; Chicago) have partnered, with Helus acting as an application services provider for Axolotl’s Elysium suite of clinical messaging applications. Helius will offer Elysium on its medical Internet services facilities to community-based physician practices and their partners.
• Bell Atlantic and EMX (New York), a healthcare information services provider, are working together to give physicians an on-line view of medical data and the ability to electronically process insurance and billing claims, saving time and money. In April, Bell will begin installing high-speed ISDN lines to connect the first 2,500 subscribers to a central EMX database, giving physicians access to patient information from a desktop computer at their office or the hospital. In addition, the high-speed lines will link healthcare providers to EMX’s new online network, e-DOCTOR, so they can process insurance claims or access a medical library for the latest information on advanced surgical procedures and general healthcare news
• DataCard (Minneapolis) and the Smith Hager Bajo consultancy have formed a cooperative marketing agreement in which Smith Hager Bajo, which helps providers develop programs and facilities for women and children patients, will include DataCard portable patient information and patient tracking solutions in their recommendations when appropriate.
• Fuji Medical Systems USA (Stamford, CT) has formed an alliance with Digital Arts & Sciences Corp. (Alameda, CA) to explore options for an enterprise-wide image management system that encompasses the entire scope of medical imaging. The companies previously have worked together on Fuji’s digital cameras, which are used by Digital for image capture of non-radiologic images, including pathology, dermatology, and ophthalmology.
• HealthDesk (Berkeley, CA) shareholders will vote on the sale of its consumer healthcare software product line and a proposed merger with MC Informatics (Fountain Valley, CA). HealthDesk signed a definitive merger agreement in August, and in October signed another agreement to sell its consumer healthcare business and Internet technology assets to Patient Infosystems (Rochester, NY) for about $600,000.
• Health Patterns (Oak Park, IL) has implemented a remarketing agreement with QC-QA Solutions (Sud bury, Ontario, Canada). QC-QA will remarket Health Patterns'’ line of clinical quality control products. QC-QA will have exclusive rights to market Health Patterns’ Quality Monitor product in Canada. The agreement is international, with an emphasis on North America and Western Europe.
• Leap of Faith Technologies (Chicago) and Intell igent Medical Objects (also Chicago) will jointly market their health.net products and services. The service offers private-label kiosks and web services that aggregate disease-specific content, offer value-added services such as on-line scheduling, and facilitate e-commerce, including prescription writing and fulfillment
• MedicaLogic (Hillsboro, OR) has signed a strategic marketing agreement with 3M Health Infor mation Systems (Salt Lake City) to integrate Medica Logic’s Logician ambulatory electronic medical record solution with 3M Care Innovation software. The companies will coordinate delivery of the integrated clinical information system.
• Picis (Arlington, VA) and Compucare (Reston, VA) have entered into an agreement in which Compucare will market the Picis CareSuite product line. Adding the CareSuite application provides Compucare with technology related to the automation of critical care and perioperative environments.
• Siemens Medical Systems (South Iselin, NJ) and IDX Systems (Burlington, VT) have entered into a co-marketing agreement to integrate RIS/PACS to U.S. customers. The two companies have been collaborating during the past year at the Cleveland Clinic, developing the integration between the IDXrad Radiology Information System and the Siemens Picture Archiving and Communication System and modality network. The non-exclusive agreement allows each company to take part in marketing, sales, and installation efforts in North America related to RIS-PACS integration.
• WellMed (Alameda, CA) and Lexical Technology (Portland, OR) have signed an agreement to further development of web-based consumer health records. The companies will incorporate Lexical’s Metaphrase Enterprise Vocabulary System into WellMed’s HealthNow! Online personal health record system. The companies also are collaborating on a consumer health vocabulary, the Consumer Health Terminology, which will be integrated with Lexical’s Metaphrase Thesaurus.
