• Health Patterns (Oak Park, IL) said it will release the beta version of its Quality Monitor software for clinical laboratories in the second quarter of this year. The system is designed to quickly highlight measurement errors, distinguishing between those that are medical important and those that are statistically significant but medically irrelevant. This eliminates unnecessary quality control measurements, patient repeats and instrument trouble-shooting to reduce overall costs. The product will be available for both single-user and client-server platforms.
• InfoMedtrics (Needham Heights, MA) reported that it has incorporated software from the SAS Institute (Cary, NC) into its Healthcare Information Center (HCIC) to broaden its data loading and extraction applications. With the availability of SAS software-based capabilities, InfoMedtrics is enhancing the data quality control and analytic power of its integrated decision support solution designed to manage all forms of healthcare information, including group health, worker’s compensation, disability and occupational health data. Besides being used as the basis of InfoMedtrics’ HCIC analytical applications, SAS products are incorporated into InfoMedtrics’ LoadingDock and ShippingDock code generators. In combination, the LoadingDock and ShippingDock enhance the ability of the HCIC’s Group Health, Worker’s Compensation, Disability, Occupational Health and Safety and Clinical Data Repos itory applications to impact InfoMedtrics’ customers critical business issues.
• K2 Consultants (Westboro, MA), a mobile computing company, has released Griffith’s 5 Minute Clinical Consult (5MCC) for Pal Connected Organizers. The 5MCC brings the current clinical information on a wide range of topics to the medical practitioner presented in a format that is easily used in meetings, on rounds, in the exam room or on the road. The product is designed for primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and specialists.
• Following their consolidation, the Sisters of Charity Health Care System (Houston) and Incarnate Word Health System (also Houston) have developed a shared technology initiative for the use of electronic medical records (EMRs) throughout their ambulatory practice network. Now named Christus Health, the new entity will use the Logician EMR system from MedicaLogic (Hillsboro, OR) starting later this year. George Conklin, Christus Health interim chief information officer, said Logician is an important component in the health system’s goal to function as a fully integrated care delivery system. "It is fundamental to ensuring that a patient’s information will be available to any clinician, at any point in the spectrum of care we provide. It will make for better treatment on any medical episode, and for better management of one's lifelong health.'' MedicaLogic provides EMR solutions primarily for the ambulatory environment.
