• Companion Information Management Resources (CIMR; Columbia, SC) has been chosen to supply a range of outsourced services for SunStar Health Plan (Heathrow, FL), a health maintenance organization that insures about 75,000 people throughout Florida. SunStar’s choice of CIMR provides access to the computer resources of America’s largest health insurance data center, located in Columbia at CIMR’s parent company, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of South Carolina. SunStar will continue to administer its medical management and quality assurance functions internally, and CIMR will configure a secure T-1 line connecting authorized SunStar locations to the data center to provide on-line, real-time access to Sunstar’s back office functions. SunStar also will rely on CIMR’s system to ensure readiness for Y2K issues and compliance with increasingly complex reporting requirements of Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
• Health Services Corp. of America (HSCA; Cape Girardeau, MO) said that Sisters of Mercy Health Systems-St. Louis (SMHS; St. Louis) has extended its relationship with HSCA with a four-year contract covering the majority of SMHS’s $372 million annual supply purchases. SMHS operates hospitals, physician practices, outpatient clinics, health plans, and related health and human services in a six-state region including Arkansas, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. It operates 23 acute-care hospitals with nearly 7,000 beds. HSCA provides purchasing agreements, consulting and information services for about 2,000 member hospitals, health systems and other facilities.
• IntraNet Solutions (Eden Prairie, MN) said that Allina Health System (Minneapolis), a healthcare organization with more than 1 million members, has chosen the Intra.doc! Content Management System to publish and manage administrative information via an intranet. Allina is piloting several uses of Intra.doc! across its Allina Knowledge Network for various projects, from a Y2K readiness repository to a project for electronic information access with one of its hospitals.
• ODS Networks (Richardson, TX) said Zymark Corp. (Hopkinton, MA) has selected ODS to provide switching technologies from its InfiniteSwitch 6000 series for Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet-based enterprise switching systems. Zymark also plans to install ODS’s InfiniteView Network Management tool; ProtoCop, which provides data control; and security for ODS products. Zymark is a provider of laboratory automation solutions for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
