• Avio (Orlando, FL), an IT solutions provider, has announced plans to integrate the Medcin product of Medicomp Systems into the Avio Clinical Manager, allowing physicians to completely document patient encounters and support medical decisions. By integrating a structured vocabulary with an integrated knowledge engine into its award-winning CPR, Avio offers an intuitive process for comprehensive documentation. Medcin is an intelligent clinical database engine developed by Medicomp to document patient visits at the time of care. Medcin’s structured vocabulary offers physicians intelligent prompts for real-time, logical progression through the medical thought process.
• Berlex Laboratories (Montville, NY) has launched a web site containing information about the reproductive life of women. The site, www.womenslifestages.com, offers information on all stages of a woman’s life, from the first menstrual cycle to menopause. It includes information on birth control choices, pregnancy, and managing meno pausal symptoms.
• Erisco Managed Care Technologies, a subsidiary of IMS Health (London), has released Facets 2.8, the latest version of its client/server information system. The new version of Facets features more than 100 different product enhancements, according to the company. These include added functionality to the system’s claims processing and capitation risk fund management capabilities. And a new claims processing application provides flexibility in managing both on-line and electronic claims processing. A Processing Control Agent increases the percentage of claims no longer requiring examiner intervention
• Health insurer Highmark (Camp Hill, PA) has launched an Internet partnership called The Community Partner Program with drkoop.com (Austin, TX). The program combines medical information and interactive technology with content from local and regional health-related companies. Highmark home page links lead to Highmark’s Community Partner pages at www.drkoop.com, which provide a gateway into Dr. Koop’s in-depth health information content. The Community Partner pages also detail Highmark’s health and wellness programs and provide links to on-line information. Highmark produces $7.5 billion in annual revenues and has more than 18 million customers nationwide.
• Knowledge Strategies (New York), an Internet consulting firm, has launched an Internet product for North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, a network of 13 hospitals in the New York area. In partnership with WebMD (Atlanta), the site, located at www.northshorelij.com, features news and community events, medical education, and research information, an interactive physician finder, and guidance on insurance and managed care.
