• ADAC HealthCare Information Systems (Milpitas, CA), a division of ADAC Laboratories, said that it has been selected to provide its radiology information and image management solutions to American Radiology Services (ARS; Baltimore). ARS will implement Envoi, HCIS’ Integrated Information and Image Management Solution. Envoi includes QuadRIS for the efficient management of ARS’s radiology operations at its 22 imaging centers, as well as Physician DeskTop for voice recognized report generation. In addition, Envoi will include the Intranet Image Server, which provides web access to images and reports for ARS referring physicians and on-call coverage for ARS’s 80 radiologist centers.
• American Management Systems (AMS; Fairfax, VA) reported that it has been awarded a contract worth approximately $2.2 million by the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA; Baltimore). This award was made under a recent Systems Development Lifecycle Blanket Purchase Agreement in which AMS is a participant. HCFA is an operating agency of the Department of Health and Human Services and provides health insurance for over 74 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid, and Child Health. This Statement of Work involves the development of a new application called the Provider Enrollment Chain Ownership System, or PECOS. The system will enhance the collection and storage of information relating to Medicare provider enrollment. According to Robert Hylas, vice president of AMS’s Insurance Technology Group, "Capturing and maintaining accurate provider data is a critical issue for the majority of health plans in the U.S. AMS has done extensive work in this area for several of our commercial clients and is excited to partner with HCFA on this important initiative." AMS provides specialized products and technical services for healthcare providers and payers, including integrated document management systems for health information management, patient accounting, claims processing and human resources.
• Baltimore (London), the operating name of Zergo Holdings plc, is installing security technology for the Health and Personal Social Services agency in Northern Ireland. The Baltimore UniCERT Certificate Authority system and MailSecure system will be used to create a means to distribute patient records and other confidential data across open networks, including between family doctors and hospitals.
• Dendrite International (Morristown, NJ) said that Cardinal MarketForce, the new contract sales and marketing organization (CSO) of Cardinal Health (Dublin, Ohio), has signed an agreement to provide Dendrite’s palmtop systems and sales force effectiveness solutions to the CSO for sales force automation. The agreement marks Dendrite’s first palmtop solution for the U.S. market and its first agreement with a CSO. Dendrite’s palmtop system allows MarketForce and its client companies to measure their representatives’ activity, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Cardinal MarketForce focuses on manufacturers with new products. The division provides services such as pre-launch market research, strategic and tactical planning, product management, consulting, high-quality sales force solutions, telemarketing, advance-decision support systems and outcomes-management programs.
• Object Products (San Francisco) has signed two new contracts, and renewed contracts with three other organizations. New contracts for its credentialing services have been signed with American Rehabilitation Management Systems (Denver), and HMC PPO Inc. (Springfield, MA). Contracts have been renewed with Blue Cross of California (Camarillo, CA), Managed Health Network (San Rafael, CA), and Greater Newport Physicians (Newport Beach, CA).
• StayHealthy.com Inc. (Sierra Madre, CA) has won a contract to supply medical devices to physician groups in an unnamed HMO. The company said the devices will be used to screen and monitor patients in a variety of disease management scenarios, including those with diabetes, cardiovascular, and weight control problems. The program is expected to begin by late summer and will be extended with home monitoring units.
• QuadraMed (Richmond, CA) has been selected by SCCI Health Services (SCCI) to install its Affinity information system at SCCI’s 11 facilities nationwide. SCCI hospitals specialize in medically complex patients and offers aggressive clinical and therapeutic intervention. Affinity is a web-based system that offers real-time access to data using graphical interface. A web-enabled information system, Affinity has been Year 2000-ready since its introduction in 1992.
• Unisys (McLean, VA) said it has been chosen to provide network services and products for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Computer Equipment, Resources, and Technology Acquisition (CERTAN) for NIH network infrastructure program. The potential value of the contract to Unisys is estimated at $50 million. CERTAN is a multiple-award, five-year, Health and Human Services (HHS) agency-specific, Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity contract valued at $100 million. Network services Unisys will provide include design and installation, as well as operation and maintenance of products purchased under the program and of government furnished equipment. Unisys will also provide a range of networking and data products including routers, bridges, switches, hubs, concentrators, cabling, connectors, and patch panels; uninterruptible power supplies; test and diagnostic equipment; communication service units/data service units and modems; and software, manuals and documentation. Unisys CERTAN teammates are: NaCom; Henkels & McCoy; Mastec Comtec; The Centec Group; M.C. Dean; The Mil Corp.; ISC; Logical Solutions; and MCA.
