•AHN.COM (Nashville) and HCIA Inc. (Baltimore) have formed a partnership to launch HospitalLink.net, a hospital-centered Internet information service. It will be built and operated by AHN.COM, and offered to HCIA’s customer base of more than 1,500 hospitals. HospitalLink.net will offer hospitals customized online services including health-related content for the community, patients, caregivers, and hospital employees. The service is intended to take advantage of a trend which resulted, according to a recent Harris survey, in 60 million people turning to the Internet last year for health-related information.
• Broadbase Information Systems (Menlo Park, CA) has partnered with PCSD doing business as DataMedica (Minneapolis/Nashville), to deliver Broadbase’s analytic solutions for the healthcare industry. DataMedica is offering Broadbase’s analytic solutions in its Profyle service, which measures the performance of individual physicians relative to peers in the provider network. DataMedica said the Broadbase solutions broaden the business analysis capabilities for health service providers.
• Lincoln Re (Fort Wayne, IN) and Biex (Dublin, CA) have partnered to add a preterm labor and delivery test to Lincoln Re’s alternative portfolio of medical claim management programs. The Biex SalEst System is a proprietary test that aids in identification of spontaneous preterm labor and delivery in women with a single-fetus pregnancy. The agreement gives Lincoln Re’s health insurance and health maintenance organization customers access to the test at a preferred price. The test is less invasive and less costly than testing blood, urine, or cervicovaginal secretions, and specimens can be collected at home or in a physician’s office.
• MedCare Technologies (Oak Brook, IL) has signed an agreement with Reuters Health Information for the distribution of Reuters Health Line through MedCare’s health portal, www.medcareonline.com, and to subscribers of MedCare’s online health magazine. The magazine will offer content, features and information on a range of health topics, such as fitness and nutrition, drugs and medications, women’s health, men’s health and the latest healthcare and medical news. Besides providing consumer medical information, medcareonline.com also offers free web hosting and home page services to an estimated 750,000 U.S. physicians, enabling them to send and retrieve free e-mail, conduct e-commerce and allowing their patients to interact on various health topics in disease- and condition-specific chat rooms
• One Family Investment Inc. (Littleton, CO), an Internet-based health and wellness company, has signed an agreement with Hewlett-Packard (Palo Alto, CA) to create an e-commerce capability at www.onefamily.com, One Family’s web site. HP will lead a consortium of vendors to architect a next-generation e-commerce system for One Family. The system architecture and follow-up engineering prototype is being conducted in the development laboratory of Hewlett-Packard’s Electronic Business Software Division (EBSD). Leith Anderson, EBSD’s worldwide marketing manager, said, "Our goal is to provide the technology to allow One Family to converge home-based business and network marketing with an Internet electronic storefront." One Family said it will soon announce the remainder of the technology partnership.
• Software Technologies Corp. (STC; Monrovia, CA), a provider of enterprise integration technology, said it has expanded its alliance with Perot Systems (Dallas), in which the two companies will offer healthcare organizations a one-stop solution for business re-engineering consultation and enterprise systems integration. Perot Systems will work with STC’s Professional Services and Sales teams to recommend and implement technology solutions. STC will subcontract Perot Systems’ consulting services for projects in support of STC’s enterprise application integration products: DataGate and Universal Index. DataGate offers real-time, graphical interface solutions that tie together enterprise applications from companies such as SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft and Baan. Universal Index provides an integrated delivery system with an enterprisewide master patient index that maintains patient-specific demographic, encounter and insurance information.
